1. Now, because it’s a new term, I’m going to give you some advice.
[译文]现在，因为是新学期，所以我将给大家一些建议。
because因为……所以……；虽然“所以”在英语中用“so”来表达，但是because和so不可能同时出现，用because就不能用so，用so就不能用because，他们单独都可以表示“因为……所以……”的意思。
give advice 是“给建议”的意思。
I’m going to… 是一般将来时的表达方法。
2. Why don’t you write it down?
这里的“Why don’t you do…？”是用来表示提出某种建议，而不是询问为什么不做某事的原因。
e.g.—Why don’t we drive to the park? 我们何不开车去公园呢？—OK. 好的。 当我们提建议时，还可以使用其他句型：
Why not take a walk in the park?何不在公园里散散步？
What/How about going to Europe for a holiday?去欧洲度假怎么样？
write sth. down = write down sth. 写下，记下
注意：如果sth. 是人称代词宾格，那么只能用write sth. down的形式
e.g.Why don’t you write it down? （正确）
Why don’t you write down it?（错误） 3. And why don’t you write down the correct spelling and grammar next to the mistakes? What else?

correct adj. 正确的，对的[同]right [反]wrong
next to ……的旁边
What else? 还有其它什么吗？
这里的What else?接在前几个表示建议的句子后，相当于：What else should you do? else一般用在疑问词或某些代词之后。
e.g.Who else did you see at the meeting?你在会上还看见谁了？
Does anyone else want to read this book?还有别人想要看这本书吗？
4. It’s a good idea to check your vocabulary notebook every day.
[译文]每天检查你的词汇笔记，这是个很好的办法。
It’s a good idea to…表示“……是好的办法”；这里的it是形式主语，真正的主语是后面的动词不定式。
5. But try not to translate every word.
[译文]但是尝试不要翻译每个单词。

e.g.You should try to understand my meaning.你应该尝试理解我的意思。
6. Many students ask for advice about improving their English.

介词后面接动词，只能接动词的ing形式。
e.g.How about going to the zoo? 去动物园怎么样？
7. But it takes a long time.

表示“花时间”经常使用动词“take”。

[译文]许多人在讲英语时不好意思，所以，在开口前，深吸一口气，笑一笑。 这里take a deep breath表示“深呼吸”。
e.g.The doctor told me to take a deep breath.医生让我深吸一口气。
9. Smiling always helps.
主语不能是动词原形，如果要表达动词的意思，需要把动词变成动名词的形式，即在动词后加上ing，这样动名词就可以作主语了。

e.g.If you’re feeling so tired, perhaps a little sleep would help.
如果你感到非常累的话，也许睡一会儿会好点儿。
10. And don’t forget to watch TV, for example, CCTV 9, and films in English.

三、语法点拨：一般现在时、一般过去时、一般将来时和现在进行时的复习{howtolearnenglish作文}.
何为时态？所谓时态，就是时间和状态。那么我们把我们的时间可以分别划分为“过去，现在，将来”；把状态可以划分为“一般，进行，完成”。
1．一般现在时的用法
（1）经常性或习惯性的动作，常与表示频度的时间状语连用。
时间状语： every…, sometimes,at…, on Sunday
e.g.I leave home for school at 7 every morning.
（2）客观真理，客观存在，科学事实。{howtolearnenglish作文}.
e.g.The earth moves around the sun.
Shanghai lies in the east of China.
（3）表示格言或警句中。{howtolearnenglish作文}.
e.g.Pride goes before a fall. 骄者必败。
注意：此用法如果出现在宾语从句中，即使主句是过去时，从句谓语也要用一般现在时。 e.g.Columbus proved that the earth is round.
（4）现在时刻的状态、能力、性格、个性。
e.g.I don't want so much.
Ann Wang writes good English but does not speak well.
比较：Now I put the sugar in the cup.
I am doing my homework now.
第一句用一般现在时，用于操作演示或指导说明的示范性动作，表示言行的瞬间动作。再如：Now watch me, I switch on the current and stand back. 第二句中的now是进行时的标志，表示正在进行的动作的客观状况，所以后句用现在进行时。{howtolearnenglish作文}.
2．一般过去时的用法
（1）在确定的过去时间里所发生的动作或存在的状态。
时间状语有：yesterday, last week, an hour ago, the other day, in 1982，just now等。 e.g.Where did you go just now?
（2）表示在过去一段时间内，经常性或习惯性的动作。
e.g.When I was a child, I often played football in the street.
Whenever the Browns went during their visit, they were given a warm welcome.
（3）句型：
It is time for sb. to do sth “到……时间了”“该……了”
It is time sb. did sth. “时间已迟了” “早该……了”
