When you get tired of homework, several minutes' walk in a nearby green park helps you relax at once. Or you may stand facing the lake or the sea. They'll calm (not to be excited or nervous ) you just like the green plants.

Wonder why? Colour is a key part of the answers. Since it is so, green and blue help make

people feel more quiet and safe.

All colours have special power. Scientists have found that many colours have specific effects (效果) on people's minds and feelings.

Do you want to write the best story in your class? Maybe you even dream of becoming

China's next best writer!

This is your chance to be creative! Don't be afraid to start writing your own novel (小说) - just let your imagination (想象力) run wild! It's not easy writing a story. Even adults find it difficult. So don't worry if you're finding it hard. A good novel is one that you can't stop reading. It's interesting. Remember, a novel is just a story, so you can make it up and write what you like! First of all, decide what kind of story you want to write. This is called the "genre" (风格) of a

book. It's important to choose a genre that interests you. It could be a detective (侦探) or adventure story or maybe even a fairy tale (童话).

OK, what next? Well, you now need to think of a good story idea. It could be a novel about

finding treasure (宝藏) or helping someone. Maybe you had a dream that was really good fun. Try to have a surprise at the end of the story.

Then you need to think of some characters. The reader should care about them. You want the reader to love or hate your characters! Maybe you could write about someone you know at school. But don't forget to change their names! Next, think of a good place or "setting" for your story. Maybe the story could be set in a village, or a busy city, like Beijing.

Use lots of adjectives (形容词) to describe your characters and the setting. You want the reader to believe your story! Why not read your finished story to a friend? It will help you find some mistakes. You might need to rewrite the story a few times!

Now that I’m in a new school, I sometimes think back to my years in the old one. Yesterday I rode over to my old school to see how things were going.

I went to the office for a pass and spent about an hour and a half visiting seven of my old

teachers. My old math teacher was glad to see me. She introduced me to the class and some of the students asked questions about what high school was like.

But the real adventure started when I found three former classmates at the office.

Jasleen was the first to see me: "Hi, David! Why are you here?"

"The same reason you’re here. You’re visiting someone, right?"

They wanted to visit our former English teacher, but the receptionist wouldn’t let them in! "It’s against the rules to visit while classes are in session."

"You let me in, so why not them?"

"I shouldn’t have let you in; sorry."

"We’ll only be there a few minutes," said Jasleen.

"I can’t let you; the teachers have a job to do."

We were told to leave the office. So, we sat on the floor of the entrance hall, thinking of ways to get into the building. I wondered why the receptionist had let me in. Maybe because she knew me, maybe because I was just one person, or maybe simply she was in a good mood.

We weren’t ready to give up, though. Jasleen made calls to everyone she knew in the building, but no one answered.

That’s what we were doing when the school’s principal walked by. We appealed (恳求) to him. He told us exactly what the receptionist had, but in more condescending (婉转的) language. He sent us out of the building.

The adventure ended in the icy air outside, watching the principal’s bald head moving away. Jasleen and her friends got their parents to drive them home; I rode home. The principal didn’t find out that I had chained my bike to a bench near the front door. That must have been against the rules, too!

I found the day rather funny; I had never before been ordered out of a building, especially my own school! You can imagine how Jasleen and the others must have felt.

How flexible should rules be? You decide.

16. According to the passage, which of the following statements is correct?

A. The writer is a college student.

B. Jasleen spent about an hour and a half visiting their old teachers.

C. The receptionist refused to let them in except the writer.

D. It’s right for the writer to chain the bike to a bench near the front door.

17. "I went to the office for a pass" means "_____".

A. I went to the office to pass the exam. B. I passed by the office.

C. I went to the office to pass something on to the teacher.

D. I asked the office for permission to get into the school.

18. What were they doing when the school’s principal walked by?

A. Jasleen was making calls to everyone she knew in the building.{n.kinokids}.

B. They were ready to give up. C. Someone was answering Jasleen’s phone.

D. They were looking for the principal.

19. What can we tell from the passage?

A. Jasleen is the writer’s present classmate.

B. The school is the one where the writer studied in the past.

C. The principal is a young man. D. The writer’s former classmates went home by bus.

20. Which of the following statements was certainly NOT the reason why they came to the school?
