以居委会名义（neighborhood committee）给居民写一封信。 冬季降临，各种火灾，事故频频发生，提醒居民注意用气，用电安全，并提出10点建议：
1． 小孩室内不准玩火
2． 大人不能在床上吸烟
3． 检查电器，煤气用具安全。（appliance）
4． 外出务必关好水，电，煤开关 (make sure)
5． 冬天睡觉关好门窗，但应注意通风
6． 烧饭时，应有人看管 (leave something unattended)
7． 过道，走廊，电梯，紧急通道保持通常，不应堆放杂物
（passages, corridors, lifts, emergency exit, keep clear of ） all exits must be kept clear of baggage.
8． 最好在厨房内备有小心灭火器（equip, small-size
extinguisher）
9． 万一发生火灾，迅速切断煤气，电器开关 （in case of ）
10． 逃生第一，财产第二
有紧急情况，拨１１９，如有人违背，请予以制止，或向居委会报告。

Dear fellow residents,
To our shock, a serious fire which occurred on November 15th claimed more than 50 people’s lives and up to 70 people got injured. The tragedy was a warning that we should take fire prevention into serious account. The following might as well be kept in mind.
First, since the weather in winter is so dry that all the fir-oriented activities must be paid attention to. Don’t leave the fire unattended when you are cooking. Secondly, all the residents are supposed to check the corridors and all the emergency exists, ensuring that all of them are kept clear of too much baggage. Once there is a fire, a narrow and crowded emergency exit will prevent you from escape. Moreover, never allow children to play with fire in the building. Every time you go out, be sure to keep all the gas and electrical appliances off. Finally, in case a fire breaks out, remember your life is of the greatest importance, not your property.
The new year is drawing near. Wish all the dear fellow residents a safe and happy new year.
