演讲文另外一个很典型的特征，就是大量的比喻使得文章所表达的内容更加鲜活有说服力。但是，有时因为文化差异，这些比喻甚至可以说是俚语，在翻译的时候却要求译者深刻的了解，并且巧妙的转化表达出来。“One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity.” （特别注意，此处，Negro作为美国对黑人的俚语鄙称，且使用是为了表达当时社会对黑人依然不变的严重歧视的愤怒情绪，故翻译时也应该注意这个词以及这段话的准确到位的翻译表达）【100年后的今天，黑人仍生活在物质充裕的海洋中一个穷困的孤岛上。】“It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. 二． 增词法和重复法。
Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.兄弟情谊的磐石上的时候。】But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free.

三． 词类转译。
We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce of Now. 【我们来到这个圣地也是为了提醒美国，现在是非常】Now is the time to make real the promises of 【现在是实现诺言时候。】这类现象多发生于名词（英）转译为形容词（中）或者动词（中）等。这主要是因为中文动词用的多，而英文因为词性转换的缘故有动词、形容词名词化等常见现象。
纵观全文，除了上述情况以外，还有以下的两点特色。
一，语序的调整。因为中英的文化差异，语言逻辑也有各自的特定顺序。因此，在翻译时，每每遇到英文的长句，除了进行适当的断句之外，还需要基于汉语的特点进行顺序变换调整，如Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation.【100年前，一位伟大的美国人签署了《解放黑奴宣言》，今天我们就是在他的雕像前集会。】此处的调整，就很好的将从句和主句区别开来，句意重点鲜明。And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges. 此处的句序调整难度略高，因为还得在充分理解句意的基础上，才能进行调整，将原文重点凸显出来。【黑人得不到公民的基本权利，美国就不可能有安宁或平静，正义的光明的一天不到来，叛乱的旋风就将继续动摇这个国家的基础。】
二. 意译的使用。意译在中英文翻译中也极为重要，虽然平时为了尊重原文我们更多的选择标准的翻译方式，但在许多时候，由于语言差异，我们不能很好的表达，只能用意译来阐述某些词句。如In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check.
【就某种意义而言，今天我们是为了要求兑现诺言而汇集到我们国家的首都来的。】此处为了把抽象的比喻具体化，使得意思更明确，所以选择了意译，从而避免文章的较重翻译痕迹的出现。Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds. 【美国没有履行这项神圣的义务，只是给黑人开了一张空头支票，支票上盖着“资金不足”的戳子后便退了回来。】这也是一个很好的例子，把意思明确的表达出来。
这篇经典之作的中译文的确非常精彩，但在我个人看来，略有瑕疵。1.One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. 100年后的今天，黑人仍然蜷缩在美国社会的角落里，并且意识到自己是故土家园中的流亡者。我觉得find oneself „„是一个很有深意的用法，其意是不知不觉中忽然惊讶的发现一种不比寻常的处境，而译文没有很好的做到这一点，只是简单译为“意识到”，不能到位地反映出演讲者情感。我觉得应加上“突然“两字会更好。Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children. 现在是向上帝所有的儿女开放机会之门的时候，现在是把我们的国家从种族不平等的流沙中拯救出来，置于兄弟情谊的磐石上的时候。此处进行了语句顺序调整，我觉得不恰当，应该还是按着原文顺序来，既不影响读者对英文的理解，也更好地表达感情和意义的递进，实现演讲文特点。

[PK赛]关于我的理想的作文：我的理想——当一名翻译官 我的理想是当一位翻译官，为生活在不同地方的人们做翻译。
我为什么要当一位翻译官呢？原因有两个：一是我在上海世博会采访外国人------因我是小记者，却不能用英语跟外国人交流，害得我只能请导游——小雨阿姨给我来当翻译。最后，虽然采访是顺利结束了，但是我却很难过，因为我英语不好，所以错过了一个独立采访外国人的大好机会。现在我还珍藏着那张采访时跟老外的合影，如我对英语不感兴趣时，一看到这张照片就立马来了兴趣。而第二个原因是我在去上海之前，去了北京游玩。那时，我看见一位小妹妹在跟一个外国人交流，我就凑了上去，可那位小妹妹说的话我一句也没有听懂。还是在导游的翻译下，才明白了她们说的内容。

现在，我只要一有零花钱，就去买些英语书籍。有时钱不够用了，我就动用压岁钱来买书，就这事，妈妈不止一次说过我，可我就是不听。学校一有活动，我是第一个报名的，我还参加了上海昂立英语兴趣培训班学习。不仅如此，我还订了一个学习英语的加强计划表：一是视觉学习，把学过的英语单词都抄到一张大白纸上，贴在我的书桌前；二是语音练习，每天早晚都要听英语磁带十五分钟；三是口语练习，每天要找爸爸用英语交流。四是每天要背诵课文和听写单词。
功夫不负有心人，我的英语立马突飞猛进，不仅当了英语正班长，还在期末期中考试得了100分。在学校举办的“快乐学英语”英语比赛中，得了第一名。
为了实现我的理想，我制定了阶段性目标：小学英语词汇量达到初中水平，初中词汇量达到高中水平，而高中词汇量至少要达到四级以上。
