一个细雨绵绵的日子，路上的行人很少，我们首次以义工小队这一团体的名义来到社区。老师让我和另外六名同学到社区里发放有关>环境保护的调查问卷和倡议书，我不解：“既然是义工，不是应该帮助社区做打扫卫生之类的活吗？”老师并没有解释，只是笑笑：“你参加完活动就知道了。”
那时并没有理解这句话的深意，现在想来，老师其实早有预见。从来没有主动和陌生人搭过话，羞涩的我站在路边，一个路人走了过来，我犹豫不决地思索着：到底要不要去呢？那人看上去好像蛮好说话的，可是，万一人家拒绝了怎么办？„„周围的同学纷纷鼓励我：“快去啦，没关系的。”“就像平常一样说话就好了。”想到别的同学的问卷基本都发完了，我的还一张没发，于是一咬牙，慢慢地向那路人走去。见那路人把目光投在我身上，我立刻紧张起来，微红着脸，小声问道：“那个，那个，你能不能帮我„„”“你说什么？”连>自我介绍都忘了的我被路人疑惑地打断，捧着问卷的手伸出一半在空中收也不是，放也不是，尴尬极了。我的脸刷地一下红了，鼻尖冒出细细的汗珠，更加结巴了：“我，我，我„„”见路人要走，我一下子急了，一口气如炮弹般把早已想好的说辞吐出：“我是清潭中学义工小队的成员，在做一个关于环保的调查，能不能帮我填一下？”说完，我立刻把手伸出，眼睛却不敢看向路人。那路人只是低低“嗯”了一声，便很自然地接过问卷，手一挥，几下就填好了还给我，还和蔼地说：“小姑娘，要放开点啊。”我不敢相信这一切竟是如此简单，只是呆呆地点了点头，不知道该说什么。
一路上不断地看到不同的垃圾在风中翻滚，有塑料袋、餐巾纸，还有吃剩的饼干撒了满地，喝剩的牛奶流淌在地上„„有人走过，却无动于衷，也不见有环卫工人来打扫。倒是有一块区域，有几个身穿清潭中学校服的人拿着扫帚清理着地面，但是常常刚刚清扫完，就又有人把垃圾扔到地上，甚至有个人才刚刚填完调查问卷，看都不看发给他的倡议书，随手就丢在了地上，然后无视扫地同学的怒目，若无其事地继续往前走。然而，就在他前面，只要走几步，就有一个垃圾桶！
我看着一切，渐渐明白了，义工，首先要帮助的不是别人，而是自己，要帮助自己战胜所有的懦弱，然后才能以强者的姿态接受所有的挑战；义工，在战胜了自己后，要做的不仅是单纯的帮助，而且要改变人的思想。就像这次的环保活动，只是简简单单地打扫卫生还不够，只有让所有的人都意识到环保的重要，才能从根本上解决问题。
