道场在哪里？道场就在家里。你在家孝敬父母，你这宅院就是道场。天天孝敬父母，你这府上天天都是道场。如果，有一天你骂爹辱娘，不孝父母，那么这天贵府就不是道场而是民宅了。“我想作点善事，哪里有善事可作？”老陈到处打听。老王告诉他：“去如来寺扫地做义工。”老陈天没亮就出门，又坐地铁又坐巴士，折腾半天来到如来寺，又扫地来又抹桌，好个勤快。老陈作义工是勤快，可是他脾气不好，平常在家里不太尊敬父母。试问大家：在家不敬父母，出去做义工有何用？说实在，做义工是有功德，但与不敬父母之罪相比，则是“功不抵过”。如果，将尊敬父母作好，再做义工修善，则其功德不可思议。“哪里有善事可作？”家里就有，眼前就有，无须远求，尊敬父母就是一桩大善事。你不孝父母，你来诵经拜佛，护法神也是不欢迎你的。父母乃活佛，是活菩萨。不孝父母，不名佛弟子，谈何修行？不孝父母，诵经念佛无益。
孝之一字，意义深而广大。如何孝？大的就不说，为人子女最基本的最基本就是做好公民，赡养父母，不打不骂不嫌弃父母，这就是最基本的孝，最基本的诠释。再讲些别的，你吃苹果有没有想到父母？你吃好吃的水果时，只顾自己吃，有没有想到父母有没有吃？心中没有父母，这也是不孝。你吃东西，你得先留一份给父母，这就是孝。告诉儿女这一份是留给爷爷奶奶的，这便是孝的教育。这种孝的教育，应该世世代代相传。你长大了，母亲老了没有用了，你有没有曾想：母亲是你的包袱？成为你的负担？希望她早点往生得了。有没有这样想？有，你很不孝。我们学佛人千万不能有这个念头。我们诵经念佛，希望父母健康长寿。父母健在，是我们的福报。《心地观经》说：“悲母在堂，名之为富。”父母健在，说明你很富有。富有不富有？不是看财富多少，而是看父母是否在世。当然，这个不是一般人所能理解。
许多人常怨言，“我父母偏心”，“我父母对我不好”。我说：“埋怨增长罪业，你不必埋怨。要埋怨的是你自己，全怪自己命不好，前生没种好因。”说实话，有些父母也确实作得不够，但是，我们要原谅她们，你老是记恨这个，对你自个身心健康不利。并且过去的事都已过去了，追悔埋怨都是无益。并且，父母也老迈了，时日也不多了，你就原谅她们吧。原谅她们，你有大福报。父母毕竟是父母，子女毕竟还是子女，为人子女理应报父母恩，此乃天经地义。
孝顺父母，女同胞比我们男同胞作得要好的多，女同胞比我们男同胞孝顺父母，这是当今可以说是很普遍的现象，可能古今相同。但是，女同胞孝顺自己的父母，孝不孝顺先生的父母？作为佛教信徒，不但要孝顺自己的父母，也要孝顺
先生的父母，这样孝顺功德就不可思议，这样必定感应诸佛，诸佛菩萨赞叹，龙天护法拥护你。
今天，我们念诵《地藏经》。《地藏经》就是佛门孝经。从《地藏经》中，我们了解到孝的重要与可贵，以及地藏菩萨救母报恩的感人事迹。从经中，我们也增强了“失去人身便堕落恶道”的可怕事实的认知。佛经常常告知我等，绝大多数人都是一失人身便堕落恶趣，或一失人身便万劫难复人身。此翻人身灭，大多入恶道，苦难逼迫甚，漫漫无了期。我们在座的每一位，今生若不能有所成就，来生绝大多数都是去三恶道报到。我们过去父母、现前父母，绝大多数也是这个结局。所谓“得人身者，如甲上土；失人身者，如地上土”，说的就是这个状况。甲上土，指甲内的泥土，比喻数量极少。善知识，我们离开人世后、失去人身后，极少极少的人有机会能重新投胎做人得到人身，绝大多数的都将不复人身。过去父母轮回苦逼，今天，我们发虔诚心为过去父母超度，出离苦难，生安养国。在生父母业力坚固，今天，我们发勇猛心为他们消业祈福。
