Aspirations of youth

------James Montgomery

Higher, higher, will we climb?

Up the mount of glory,

That our names may live through time

In our country's story;

在我们祖国的史册;

Happy, when her welfare calls,

He who conquers, he who falls!

Deeper, deeper, let us toil

In the mines of knowledge;

在知识矿藏中开发;

Nature's wealth and learning's spoil

Win from school and college;

从学校研究院吸纳;

Delve we there for richer gems

Than the stars of diadems.

Onward, onward, will we press?

Through the path of duty;

推进这职责的常规;

Virtue is true happiness,

Excellence true beauty.

Minds are of supernal birth:

Let us make a heaven of earth.

The Rainy Day

------ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;

天冷、阴暗、沉闷;

It rains, and the wind is never weary;

下着雨,风也刮个不停;

The vine still clings to the moldering wall,

But at every gust the dead leaves fall,

And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold and dark and dreary;

我的生活寒冷、阴郁、沉闷;

It rains and the wind is never weary;

下着雨,风也刮个不停;

My thought still clings to the moldering past,

But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,

And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart! And cease repining;

安静吧,忧伤的心!别再悔恨;

Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;

乌云后面太阳依然辉煌灿烂;

Thy fate is the common fate of all,

Into each life some rain must fall,

Some days must be dark and dreary.

When You Are Old

--William Butler Yeats

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,

And nodding by the fire, take down this book,

And slowly read, and dream of the soft look

Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

回想它们过去的浓重的阴影;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,

And loved your beauty with love false or true,

But one man loved the pilgrim Soul in you,

And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,

Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled

And paced upon the mountains overhead

And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

——William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high over vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

延伸成无穷无尽的一行;

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced;but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

水仙的欢欣却胜过水波;

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed--and gazed--but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF FAILURE

Robert H. Schuller

Failure doesn t mean you are a failure,

It does mean you haven t succeeded yet.

Failure doesn t mean you have accomplished nothing,

It does mean you have learned something.

Failure doesn t mean you have been a fool,

It does mean you had a lot of faith.

Failure doesn t mean you ve been disgraced,

It does mean you were willing to try.

Failure doesn t mean you don t have it,

It does mean you have to do something in a different way. Failure doesn t mean you are inferior,

It does mean you are not perfect.

Failure doesn t mean you ve wasted your life,

It does mean you have a reason to start afresh.

Failure doesn t mean you should give up,

It does mean you must try harder.

Failure doesn t mean you ll never make it,

It does mean it will take a little longer.

Failure doesn t mean God has abandoned you,

It does mean God has a better idea.

FOLLOW YOUR OWN COURSE Neil Simon Don t listen to those who say, “It s not done that way.” Maybe it s not, but maybe you will. Don t listen to those who say, “You re taking too big a chance.” Michelangelo would have painted the Sistine Floor, and it would surely be rubbed out by today. Most importantly, don t listen When the little voice of fear inside of you rear its ugly head and says, “They re all smarter than you out there. They re more talented, They re taller, blonder, prettier, luckier and have connections...” I firmly believe that if you follow a path that interests you, Not to the exclusion of love, sensitivity, and cooperation with others, But with the strength of conviction That you can move others by your own efforts, And do not make success or failure the criteria by which you live, The chances are you ll be a person worthy of your own respect.

Napolean Hill

Faith is the “eternal elixir”

Which gives life, power, and action to the impulse of thought! Faith is the starting point of all accumulation of riches! Faith is the basis of all “miracles”,

And all mysteries which cannot be analyzed by the rules of science! Faith is the only known antidote for failure!

Faith is the element, the “chemical” which,

When mixed with prayer, gives one direct communication with Infinite Intelligence.

Faith is the element which transforms the ordinary vibration of thought, created by the finite mind of man, into the spiritual equivalent. Faith is the only agency through which

the cosmic force of Infinite

Intelligence can be harnessed and used by man.

ON CHANGES Irene Dunlap Change is the only absolute in the world, the only thing that you can depend on. Nothing stays the same. Tomorrow will come, bringing with it new beginnings and sometimes unexpected endings. You can hold on to the past and get left in the dust; or, you can choose to jump on the ride of life and live a new adventure with perseverance and an open mind.

RESULTS AND ROSES Edgar Albert Guest
