篇一:《our campus》

Our Campus

It seems that everyone shows a preference for his/her own campus. So do I .

Our campus stands at northern piedmont of the beautiful Baiyun Mountain, which is a major national scenic spot. With an area of about 950 mu, it is neither too large nor too small.

To be honest,I was a bit disappointed when I came to our campus for the first time last year. It was not because of its environment but the the poor condition of our dormitory. I had been expected a bright and spacious dormitory that was well equipped in my university since I entered the middle school . Maybe it was because I had expected too much that I was somewhat disappointed when I saw the narrow, dilapidated and bleak dorm room without any equipment but some hard bunk beds and some miserable writing desks.

Tough the dormitory is dissatisfactory and leaves much to be desired, I am still delighted at the other aspects of our campus, especially its intoxicating scenery that shows different flavors in different seasons.

The campus in spring is my favorite. You can imagine how delightful to see the new tender green sprouts shoot forth as the days pass by all around the campus. All of they are new lives, which are full of force and vigor. Won’t you also feel energetic when you see such lovely little lives? After early spring, different kinds of buds start bursting. You can see a variety of flowers of different colors all around the campus soon. For examples, the magenta azaleas, the delicate pink bauhinias, the vivid red kapoks, the cream nearly white flowers of mango trees and so on. Walking slowly in the Yunxi Road covered by countless fallen bauhinias which are still delicate and pink, you will feel like walking in the elfland or Xanadu. More enjoyably, you can hear the silvery and dulcet sound of birds at the same time.

When summer comes, the trees on the campus become more exuberant and green. Most delightfully, you can see different mellow fruitage around the campus. But, obviously, you cannot pluck any of them. Another marked character is the endless and sometimes blasted chirping of cicadas. Sauntering around the campus in the cool summer nights also seems rather a good idea.

When you can catch a sight of a clear sky with few floating clouds through the gap between the branches, it means the autumn is coming. However you can’t see the scene that all the sapless yellow leaves fall from the trees gradually, which is a normal scene in the autumn. It’s because our campus lies in the southern part of China and consequently has a typical subtropical climate. Instead you will see most of the trees are as exuberant and green as they used to be in the summer.

In the winter, instead of the naked bunches, what you will see is many still vibrant trees with only a few leaves drifting down. However some kind of trees, like tannes, will be nearly stark too. At this time, walking on the roads covered with fallen leaves that have already turned yellow to make some cracking sound is the most useful way to release stress to me.

1 Assignment 4, Intermediate English Writing ,2011/5/5

To sum up, in my mind, our campus is a beautiful garden with a rather good environment, though its facilities is a little far-fetched.

should people buy things according to what ads say?

It depends. If what the ads said are the things I need, and it's true, I will but them.

For instance, if I saw the ads of KFC or Mcdonald's saying: five yuan, you'll get french fries and ice cream, I'll buy them for sure! However, sometimes, what the ads said are not real. So, I'll just skip it.For example, ads said that this kind of medicine will get rid of your extra fat... I'll regard this as a joke. Haha...You see, ideas differ from different people. And no matter what the ads said, the companies just want to make profits. I think it will be ok, if we audience have active attitude. Thank you!

My Friend

Zhang Dong is my best friend. He entered our class last semester. He is a boy. Both of us are good at English, so we often have a chat in English in our spare time. After school, we often play football together on the playground. He runs so fast that I can not catch up with him. He is an excellent student. He not only gets good marks in all subjects but also is very kind and modest. He loves popular songs and also classical music.

There are three people in his family and he is the only child. His father is a doctor and his mother is a Beijing Opera actress. Though Zhang Dong's family is wealthy, he is usually simply dressed. He has a dream which is to be a lawyer.

Such is my friend, a clever and kind boy. He is highly praised by the teachers and students

if a book has been made into a movie or to read a book first?why?

My opion is we had better read the book first. It can help us to understand the book and the movie better in case that there are some points we can't catch. As two different kind of art, book and movie have different way to express the author's idea and emotion. I think book can make it more clear than movie because movie may be limited by some

technique problem or actor's work.

So even a book has been made into a movie, I'll still read the book first.

The Spring Festival is my favorite festival. It is on the first day of January on Chinese lunar calendar. On that day, we usually get together at my grandparents' home. We often have a big dinner with 10 courses. However, the whole chicken, whole duck and the pork leg are not touched any more . Obviously, times have changed. We just pick some delicious seafood.

After dinner, I go outside with my cousins. We light fireworks and firecrackers. The dark sky will become colorful. We shout and jump when we see the fireworks shooting into the sky and exploding into leaves and flowers, gold, red, green or purple.

Some of my cousins can hold the firecrackers in their hands and light them and then throw them up. The firecrackers crack up in the sky and make all of us laugh heartily.

We often play and play until midnight. At that time, all the kids light their fireworks and firecrackers at the same time. The whole sky will be lit up in a moment and happy noise will make whole neighborhood very high with excitement.

Now you can see why the Spring Festival is my favorite festival. I like it because of the food, the family gathering and the excitement.

Dear leader,

I am very glad that your school will hold the English Summer Camp that contains many courses ,such as gardening 、 cooking 、 self-defence 、 nursing and so on 。I want to register to attend a course bout gardening ,because I have liked flowers 、grasses etc since I was a little child。I especially like playing in the garden where I can enjoy the beauty of nature。For one thing ,I hope to gain a bit more knowledge of gardening so that it can help me to major in the gardening after attending college。Besides I wish to get much more information about gardening so as to study it more easily when I enter the university。What's more ,I can realize the bitterness of the gardeners to treasure the plants much more。For another, after graduation from college I will devote my life to cultivate the flowers and grasses to turn our country into a more beautiful state and make many more foreigners come to visit our country 。

Yours,

Wang yue hua 2010 World Expo

Shanghai will host the 2010 World Expo. The World Expo has a long history but it has never been held in Asia. So the 2010 World Expo is an honor for all of the Asians. Our government has promised that it will be the best one. And Shanghai, as a host city, will have more chances to develop quickly. I should learn English well so that I can be a volunteer in the Expo to help foreigners know more about Shanghai.

The first ,study English hard.Millions of foreigners will visit Shanghai during 2010 World Expo.So we must study the international language harder.

The second,be polite,be civilized.Do it from little things.Like do not spit sputum in

rude. When you do somethings ,remember ladies first. In all,be a kind and polite man. Welcome World Expo!A time to make friends.

In my opinion, the Expo is a large and grand ceremonies. I can imagine that in

Shanghai, has no national boundaries, away from all over the world people are discussing the changes here, not only the environment has become more sanitary, and construction is getting better and better. Following the Olympic Games after the motherland and the people is the second one is excited event.

Shanghai World Expo, construction of the "Shanghai World Expo Park" is also careful planning, it is estimated there is a permanent exhibition hall. My favorite is the mascot of World Expo - Hai Bao. This is an aqua blue again with a dynamic elf. Hoi Po's image and self-confidence to use both arms warm smile welcomes friends from around the world. Hoi Po is a Chinese character "person" as a core creative, because only supported one

another throughout the world, man and nature. Man and society. Harmony among people, so that the city will be better.

I'm looking forward to Shanghai World Expo held in Shanghai has been constantly progressing, people of the motherland is also injected into the Expo. Olympics. I believe that the Expo would surely be the same as the Olympic Games a complete success, has become so difficult for other countries to replace the state, win glory for the whole of China! I hope I can do something for the World Expo, in order to cheer the arrival of the Expo bar!

1. Do you want to own a car? Why?

Symbol of success begins to look tarnished

If you had told me in high school that I still wouldn’t own a car at age 31, I would have said you were crazy. In my mind back then, the car was a symbol of success - and my ticket to adulthood.

And yet here I am, 31 years old, and getting around Washington DC not by car, but by bus, train and my own two feet. As it turns out, I am in good company. More American young people are embracing public transport, walking and biking – especially those living in and around urban areas.

A car is still important, and almost every one of us will eventually own one, but it is no longer the must-have I once thought it to be. A study published earlier this year by the US Public Interest Research Group (US PIRG) found that young people aged 16 to 34 drove, on average, 23 percent fewer miles annually from 2001 to 2009.

At the same time, young people rode bikes 24 percent more often and increased their use of public transit by 100 percent.

The reasons for this change in behavior range from the obvious to the subtle. The

ailing economy and rising gas prices are a big factor. So, too are other related costs, such as paying for car insurance and parking. In downtown Washington DC, for example, drivers pay as much as $20 (126 Yuan) per day to park near their offices.

The US PIRG study also found that the rise of smart phones and tablets have

made using public transport more attractive. These devices allow passengers to get more work (and play) out of life when they would otherwise be stuck behind the wheel.

The car is symbol of success in the past. However, car only is a sort

of vehicle(交通工具) now. And ,the person who has car may

haven't ability to pay, they are support to daily money by their parents .In other words , the person has a car can't mean him has earning power. In addition, rich does not mean success.

2.Do you know PM2.5? What can college students actually do to get our blue sky back?

Chen campaigns for blue sky

Chen Jiajun won his reputation as a veteran volunteer on campus at South China Normal University. During his six years in college, the 25-year-old psychology postgraduate has already launched two student volunteer groups dedicated to environmental protection. ―Working together can always bring something bigger and better,‖ said Chen.

As a resident of Guangzhou since childhood, Chen remembers the old days when he sat on his grandpa’s bicycle under a blue sky. However, now the city’s gloomy skyline lies under a grey sky. Chen thinks something, however small, has to be done to improve the environment.

A survey conducted by a local non-governmental organization (NGO) in Guangzhou found that nearly 30 percent of 967 college students don’t know what PM2.5 is. Chen decided to monitor PM2.5, fine particulate air pollution which has been in the news lately.

But there is no device available on campus to measure it. Chen contacted environmental groups to borrow a monitor. Eventually, a Beijing-based NGO offered several portable PM2.5 monitors.

Starting in February, Chen’s group, Blue Sky Guangzhou, invited one Guangzhou resident each day to monitor air quality in his or her neighborhood. Data collected over months indicated 35-55 mg PM2.5 per cubic meter, significantly lower than the national standard of 75 mg.

Chen felt confused. He consulted the environmental protection department of

Guangzhou municipality. It turned out that in order to have accurate data, monitors have to be installed all over the city on different levels of heights working 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

―I feel frustrated with our efforts which proved nothing,‖ said Chen. When he realized monitoring air pollution was too difficult, Chen decided to invite the mayor of Guangzhou to take part in his campaign. ―We sincerely invite Mayor Chen Jianhua to join the PM2.5 air quality forecast activity, launched by our group of volunteers. ―We call on people to protect the environment, support the government’s work and save Guangzhou’s blue skies,‖ says his group’s letter to the city boss.

“我感到沮丧,我们的努力。事实证明,这没什么,”陈夏勇说。当他意识到监测空气污染太困难,陈决定邀请广

州市市长参加竞选。“我们真诚地邀请市长陈Jianhua加入PM2.5空气质量预报活动,推出了由本集团的志

愿者。“我们呼吁人们保护环境,支持政府的工作,并帮助广州的蓝色的天空,“说他的小组的信到城市的老板。 To his surprise, the mayor soon wrote back saying that the city has already planned to include PM2.5 in its future air quality monitoring *routine. Chen said that he felt thrilled to know that PM2.5 will get official attention so soon.

―I launched a lot activities during my campus life and many of them failed,‖ said Chen. ―But even failures push things forward, like this one.‖

“我推出了很多活动在我的校园生活,他们中的许多人失败了,”陈说。“但即使失败推动事情向前发展,像这一

个。”

观点:保护环境(空气质量)

I think that want to improving air quality must plant tree. The tree can assimilate carbon dioxide and desorb oxygen. What is more, people should reduce the amount of car and air condition .And, people also should limit exhaust emission form factory. People need pure air, but it is a difficult now, we can only gradually improve air quality.

3."Ground-floor work is not a burden, but an asset to your career, which will prove to be invaluable for your future." What do you think is necessary for college grads to know as graduation season approaches?

Hands-on experience is important

"Drawing sketches is the basic drill of future engineers. But few of the grads have the skills or patience to do that now." Zhang Yi, a senior editor at online video portal Letv.com discovered that some of his graduate interns lacked any idea of how important it is to do the most basic chores well. "For instance, one graphic design intern likes to stress her flair in creativity, but she doesn't actually know how to crop a picture properly," he said.

College grads' lack of hands-on experience is causing a "two-way dilemma" in the job market this year. Major media including ifeng.com report that employers are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit qualified candidates for their openings. Meanwhile many grads are experiencing hardship landing job offers due to their "poor problem-solving abilities."

Wang Jian, a senior consultant from 51job.com said that the situation has arisen due to a mismatch between the employers' expectations and those of grads. "Employers wish to have job-ready recruits with the right set of basic skills, but students often tend to look at positions that are beyond their current ability range." ‖ Wu Qingmei, an HR manager from the Tianjin Branch of China Urban Construction Design & Research Institute, was surprised that she couldn't find many grads who can draw good paper sketches. Some candidates made mistakes in street names or put wrong distances on maps.

"Drawing sketches is the basic drill of future engineers. But few of the grads have the skills or patience to do that now," she said. "Instead, they all wanted to do creative jobs such as holistic design plans for a city project. They didn't realize it will take three to five years to reach that level."

“画草图是未来的工程师的基本训练。但是只有少数的毕业生拥有这的技能或耐心去这样做,”她说。“相反,他们都想做创造性的工作如整体设计一个城市项目的计划。他们没有意识到它需要三到五年才能达到这一水平。”

As graduation season approaches, she has only found one or two qualified

candidates who want to do the "most basic work" for nearly 10 vacancies. The ratio is like 1 to 5.

5。 Consultant Wang points out that newbies' reluctance to do ground-level work is because they wrongly project their place in the workforce. "With over 6 million students graduating each year, college should no longer be considered an 'elite education'," he said. "Most have to get in at the lowest level and work their way up." 顾问王指出newbies '不愿做地面工作是因为他们错误地计划他们的劳动力的地方。“超过600万每年毕业的学生,大学不应该再被认为是“精英教育”,”他说。“大多数不得不在最低级别和工作方式。”

Liu Chuan, 22, a senior English major from the University of Technology and Science Beijing, has adjusted well to his role. He used to think that doing foreign trade equals closing lucrative deals with clients. "I learnt in my internship, most of the time the work is just related to checking hundreds of detailed items on a single contract, and doing abstract calculations of trade figures," he said. He recalled a manager from a PR firm asking if he could bear spending months "sending e-mails" to clients or media practitioners. "I told myself why not?" he said, "The work would build up my contacts and interpersonal skills, and would be useful."

Wang suggests grads change their mindset. "Ground-floor work is not a burden, but a asset to your career, which will prove to be invaluable for your future."

College grads face the biggest trouble is work pressure. College student received higher education, they can qualified for college students jobs. Though student lack of hands-on experience, they have a strong ability to learn and high quality. College student are still the pillar of the country. If college grads work in the ground-floor work will burled the talents of university.
