The Temple of Heaven Park is a famous tourist attraction in Beijing. Most visitors go there to appreciate the ancient buildings. However, it is not only a tourist attraction, but also a stage of singing, a physical training field and a children’s playground.
First of all, there are various kinds of people sing different songs in the park every day whatever the weather. Most of the elderly people like to sing songs which were popular when they were young in chorus. They sing loudly and enthusiastically in the gallery or the open area though they are old. Moreover, young people also like singing but there is somewhat different. They prefer to sing solo with microphone and speakers and they enjoy pop songs more.
Secondly, a lot of people go to the park to do many kinds of physical exercises every day. Everyone chooses one that suits them. Running is the most common exercise and different kinds of joggers run around the park in twos and threes every morning. Foreign tourists are usually attracted by the Chinese traditional exercise such as practicing tai chi, kicking shuttlecock and playing diabolo. They take pictures and sometimes have a try.
Moreover, kids have been treating this park as an amusement park by running around and even playing games. When the weather is fine, many young parents take their children to the park. They play on the lawn and the park rings with children’s cheers and laughter.
Although the business of the Temple of Heaven has changed from ensuring plentiful harvests to bringing in good tourism revenues, it is still a pretty good place for ordinary people to relax. Their ordinary and simple lives are another beautiful view in the old park.
